You’ll find the images of the glass blowing, furnaces, fire, red hot glass and glass masters’ hands; but also some of the most beautiful glimpses of the island of glass: fondamente, rii, bridges, the skyline of the world’s glass capital, its light reflected on the canals, Murano under the sun, or shrouded in darkness.
The photos belonging to the international photo contest Obiettivo Venezia and having as topic the island of glass, are more than 400, sent by 119 participants. The contest has been held by the Promotion department of Venice City Council, and Consorzio Promovetro Murano.
The Murano glass session images have to be added to the 3000 pictures and 500 photographers, participating to Venice session.
Obiettivo Venezia photo contest was strongly wanted by Consorzio Promovetro and Venice city Council to enhance Venice’s and Murano’s beauties, to show the world a new and not stereotyped image.
Today, the award ceremony has been held at Council House of Venice, Ca’ Farsetti.
Prizes have been given to:
City of Venice session:
1st place: Alessandro Tagliapietra – Thinking Venice
Panel’s motivation:
Alessandro Tagliapietra deserves our best congratulations, as he has been able to change two ordinary Venice elements and transform them into a dream image. Bravo!
2nd place: Marc De Tollenaere – Riflessi in Bacino Orseolo (Reflexes at Bacino Orseolo)
Panel’s motivation:
Those cities in the world, surrounded by water, are strongly seductive. Venice is the first of them. Marc De Tollenaere caught a sublime moment: two gondolas kissing. A love kiss.
Murano Glass session
1st place: Anuschka Bayens – No Title
Panels’ Motivation
Maybe the foreign eye of Anuschka Bayens was indeed what we were looking for, to represent a banal picture of a Murano glass furnace, into a an abstract image.
2nd place: Eliana Giuntoli – La Luce nel Buio (A Light Into Darkness)
Panel’s motivation
This image has nothing to do with Murano, and this is its quality! As it goes close to the meaning of the word Photo (light) – graphy (writing) itself.
Special Web Award: Alessandro De Nardis – L’uscita del Vetro dalla Crisi (Glass Coming Out of the Crisis) – 123 likes.
The artwork is Tin Glass by Leonardo Cimolin, exposed at Berengo Fine Arts gallery, Murano
Prizes have been given by Roberto Panciera Venice Council Assessor, Luciano Gambaro and Sergio Malara, president and coordinator of Consorzio Promovetro Murano, managing authority of Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, and president of the panel Fulvio Roiter.

“This is an important initiative, to us, as it puts the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark, as a partner to the most important Venice institutional initiatives, says Luciano Gambaro, president of Consorzio Promovetro Murano. Our aim is to promote it on a international level: everyone has to understand that the protection of this unique cultural heritage, goes through the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark. All those falsifying Murano glass are damaging Murano, Venice, their histories and cultures.
