Collateral event to the 55th Biennale di Venezia international art exhibition

The colouring and transparencies of Murano glass are a fundamental part of Antonio Nocera’s art work I Libri d’Acqua, a project part of the collateral events of the 55th Biennale di Venezia international art exhibition.

The exhibition curated by Professor Louis Godart and Laura Fusco is exposed at the Monastery of San Niccolò at Lido, and it is available for free visits from 1st June to 24th November 2013.

Consorzio Promovetro Murano, managing authority of the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark has collaborated with the artist offering a fundamental element, which made Murano famous all around the world: glass. A not refined glass, in thousand different shades of blue, which, with its transparencies and reflexes, in this artwork fills the 4×4 mt. platform, in a symbolic representation of the most important element for Man, water.

For the creation of its artworks, Antonio Nocera uses the one thousand years old knowledge of Venetian craftsmanship, with precious materials, such as glass and paper are. Murano glass and in particular its reflexes, are then fundamental element of his sculptures, reminding of boats full of emigrants and seas crossed, looking for a new place to build a home.

Important is the metaphor of not refined glass, the so-called “cotisso”, as representation of a passage from the raw material to the finished artwork.
