Venice 22nd January 2013. The Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark (designed by Diego Lazzarini) “dressed up”, to become an official partner of the Carnival of Venice 2013.
From 26th January to 12th February 2013, the Vetro Artistico® Murano will be protagonist of two fundamental moments of the most famous Italian carnival: the daily contest for the best mask and the final competition for the most beautiful mask of the year.
The companies bearer of the Vetro Artistico® Murano trademark will create 22 Murano Glass lion heads (the symbol of Venice) “osellas”, which will be daily given to the best masks, according to the jury. On Sunday 10th February the most beautiful mask of the whole carnival and the mask closest to its theme – Live in Colour -, will be awarded with two special prizes.
The two main prizes will be a glass replica of the typical Venetian mask – la Bauta -, in green glass and silver and 24 Kt gold leaf, and a wonderful blown glass plate with coloured inserts, to represent the magic and spirit of Venice carnival.
Al glass works will be characterized by the Vetro Artistico® Murano, the only legally recognised trademark which guarantees to the customer the origin of a product with a one thousand years old tradition, which was born and developed in the island of Murano.
“The colouring of carnival is reflected in our glass” – says President Luciano Gambaro – “everyday glass disguises and transform itself into something new, characterised by high quality. As our guests’ costumes, also our glass is made by hand, according to the old techniques. Each piece is unique and original.”
“We hope the colours transparency and techniques which have characterised our glass for one thousand years, will contribute to make this edition even more splendid”.
Meanwhile the campaign to sensitise Venetians about Murano glass’ problems is growing in success. About 6 thousand Facebook fans are supporting the fight against counterfeit products.
