The project EGE – European Glass Experience was officially launched on September 11th during a press conference organized at the Venice City Council, within the project’s kick-off meeting.
It aims to spread glass art on a European level, and to promote young artist on a international level.
EGE Project has been developed by Consorzio Promovetro Murano, with the collaboration of City of Venice, and the Fondazione Musei Civici – Murano Glass Museum, as an effort to spread it concepts and explore its unexploited potentials.
Partner of the initiative are the Finnish Glass Museum of Riihimaki and the National Glass Museum of Spain, in Segovia, while associated partners are the Smålands Museum, Sweden, the Glass Museum of Kracow, Poland, and the International Glass Festival, Great Britain.
EGE Project obtained a co-financement by the European Commission within the Culture 2007-2013 Programme and Murano and Venice in particular will play a leading role in the foster of European artistic glass production, and encouraging the re-launching of its producers, through the involvement of young talents.
The project was presented at the press conference by the City of Venice Deputy for Culture, Angela Giovanna Vettese, and the director of City of Venice communitarian politics department, Paola Ravenna, together with the Murano Glass Museum director, Chiara Squarcina, and Consorzio Promovetro’s President Luciano Gambaro
The project will last 24 months and will include three different exhibitions in the three participating museums. The official international call for the selection of artworks, will be diffused within the month of October.
Two selections will be done, the first one to choose 40 unreleased artworks, and the second one to choose 20 sketches that will be later realized by Murano glass masters.
The artworks will then be displayed in Riihimaki in April 2014 (20 from section 1 together with the 80 drafts), in Segovia in August 2014 (other 20 from section 1, together with the 80 drafts) and in Murano (Venice) in Spring 2015 (the 40 showed in the previous exhibits and the 20 made in Murano) and will be included in the museums’ collections.
