Volley player Francesca Piccinini is going to play the role of the “eagle” during Venice Carnival 2013.
On Sunday 10th February at 12,00 she’ll be descending the St. Mark bell tower, for the second flight of Carnival.
Francesca Piccinini is one of the world’s most winning volley player with more than 340 matches played in the Italian team, and she also won the gold medal at the World’s championship 2002, in Germany, the gold medal at the European championship 2009 in Poland, the gold medal at the World’s championship 2007 in Japan, the silver medal at the European championship 2001 in Bulgaria and 2005 in Croatia, and bronze medal at the European championship 1999 in Italy.
“It is a great pleasure for me to be one of Carnival symbols and to descend from St. Mark’s bell tower is going to be a big emotion; I have never done anything like that before” says Francesca Piccinini.
She in going to wear an replica of a18th century soldier uniform, created by Francesco Briggi of the Atelier Pietro Longhi, and she is going to descend from St. Mark’s bell tower, above the carnival’s people.
As a wish of good luck, Promovetro, partner of Venice Carnival, gave her a beautiful glass “osella”, representing a lion head, symbol of Venice.
The final parade for the best costumes is going to happen on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock.
At that time the most beautiful and most colourful costumes will be awarded with a glass replica of the typical venetian “Bauta” mask in green and blu glass with gold and silver leaf, and a wonderful blown glass plate with colourful inserts, to represent the magic and spirit of Venice carnival.
The competitors will be judged by a jury of experts, and the most beautiful and the most colourful costumes will be selected.
